Wisconsin continues to experience changes in its manufacturing economy. While it continues to experience dislocations in the industry, there are new manufacturing jobs that are being created. Wisconsin needs its manufacturers to move to becoming high performance workplaces. In order to address these changes, Wisconsin proposes:
The activities will demonstrate collaborative partnerships in planning and service delivery led by workforce development boards and technical college districts. They will also build a stronger skilled workforce that can adapt and work in a skill-based workforce environment, and help the State transition from traditional manufacturing to high-level skilled, advanced manufacturing environments.
- Occupation-Related Basic Academic and Employability Skills/Competencies: Wisconsin will fund projects that offer skills instruction, including ABE and English as a Second Language, and to support the development of employability skills; and
- Occupational/Technical Skills/Competencies: These skills will be comprised of competencies identified in the Manufacturing Skills Standards and DOL Competency system. Emphasis will be placed on projects involving industry- led skills standards and certification development, as well as incorporating academic, employability, and occupational and technical knowledge in specific skill areas.
