Information about the layoff

Toys "R" Us, Inc. plans to close the 146 freestanding Kids "R" Us and the 36 freestanding Imaginarium stores, as well as the 2 distribution centers that support these stores.  The majority of these facilities are expected to close on or about January 31, 2004. In total, about 3800 employees will be impacted, the majority of which are hourly sales associates and cashiers. Each Kids "R" Us store employs, on average, 25-30 individuals. Imaginariums are generally smaller in size and employ fewer individuals.

Toys "R" Us, Inc. and the Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration are working together to assist employees affected by the store closures.
