BRIEF DESCRIPTION: WorkForce One, the administrative entity for the Broward WorkForce Development Board, proposes a project (Career Pathways) to increase the number of disabled served and placed into jobs, as well as to increase employer awareness of disability-related issues including employment, accommodations, tax, and work incentives. Monies requested would support staffing the One-Stop Centers with trained personnel who will provide system navigation and service acquisition assistance to customers with disabilities. Additionally, requested funds will be used to update assistive and accessible technologies that the One-Stop is currently equipped with to meet the needs of the target population.

Career Pathways is intended to increase coordination with employers through outreach activities including participation in local job fairs, educating the business community on hiring individuals with disabilities, and relationship building in support of improved resource use and service delivery. The Career Pathways project is designed to expand service referrals, self-determination and career opportunities for individuals with disabilities in Broward County. In addition, this project will collaborate with key agencies through the use of kiosk-styled terminals that will be linked to WorkForce Ones One-Stop Centers. Information and service referral information for persons with disabilities will also be disseminated using WorkForce Ones Partner network and Advisory Council.

WorkForce One partners with a number of agencies that serve persons with disabilities, including Nova Southeastern University, Florida Atlantic University, Vocational Rehabilitation, The Epilepsy Foundation, Broward County School Board, Broward County Community College, the Florida Family Care Council, the Employment Coalition of Florida, Inc., The Center for Independent Living and the Social Security Administration. Partnership endeavors will increase as the Career Pathways project progresses. Partnership development will continue through Broward Countys Interagency Council for the Disabled and a project Advisory Council that will consist of customers, family members, professionals, employers and advocates. Combined, these two partnerships will serve to ensure that equitable service access is assured and a diverse population is represented.
