POPULATION
SERVED: This project will admit 60 individuals into its training programs
in its first year, 50 of whom are expected to graduate and go on to be placed
in unsubsidized employment. At least 90%
of those placed will be in full-time employment. All placements will be made in jobs with
long-term career potential. Adaptive
computer peripherals, if needed, will be available for the participants to use
while training, and to take with them into their employment settings.
BRIEF
DESCRIPTION: The multi-site
Disability Information Technology Initiative will complement the programs of
Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas’s School
of Adaptive Computer Training and
its expansion efforts, which are currently being addressed in a five-year
Projects With Industry grant from the U.S. Department
of Education. This initiative will make
the enable the expansion to occur sooner and increase its capacity to serve
more individuals with disabilities.
Additionally, this project will link to the private sector (EDS
Corporation and EDS University), as well as link to local delivery systems,
including vocational rehabilitation services, One-Stop Centers, and
Welfare-to-Work.
KEY PARTICIPANTS:
This project will be carried out in 3 locations: Atlanta,
GA, Houston,
TX, and Wichita,
KS.
Its lead agent is the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas,
Inc. In Atlanta,
consortium members include EDS University, the Atlanta Workforce Investment
Board, Atlanta Vocational Rehabilitation, and Tech Connections. In Houston,
members include: Digital Consulting & Software Services, Inc., Houston Gulf
Coast Workforce Development Board, and Vocational Rehabilitation. In Wichita,
members include Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas, the Kansas
Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, and Kansas Rehabilitation
Services.
