POPULATION SERVED:  Training will be delivered to 390 incumbent workers occupying H-1B professions within Advanced Manufacturing areas to be identified by participating employers. 

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:  Certificates will be issued by the technology providers/educational laboratories recognized by the industries in the advanced engineering fields of Aeronautical, Ceramics, Chemical, Structural, Architectural/Draft, Electrical/Electronic, Industrial, Metallurgical, Marine, Mechanical, Petroleum, and Manufacturing Manager.  There are no current skills standards established for many of these sectors; this project proposes to establish these standards for the future. 

 

Partnered Employers will provide $2,816,901 in both cash and in-kind match.  Educational partners will provide an additional $17,600 in-kind match.  Total match anticipated is $2,834,501.

 

Specific outcomes will be based on employer-developed strategic technology plans. All participants will be employed and degreed.  The certificate programs already in place are mostly from NASA and will serve as the basis for certificates awarded to trainees and new certificate and skills standards programs.  No specific certifications, wage increases, or job placements are committed to.  However, grantee has committed to reporting on the cost savings employers receive due to this training.

 

KEY PARTICIPANTS:  Conax Florida, Eastern Aero Marine, Goodrich Hella Aerospace, Jetair Support, Inc., Knight LLC, MRI Devices Corporation, Quality Thin Films, VLOC (all above employers considered ‘small’) Tropicana, Raytheon Corporation, Florida MEP, University of Central Florida, and University of South Florida, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, Florida International University.
