POPULATION SERVED:  The unemployed registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and high schools students who will serve Broward County, Florida; the state of Florida; and the nation.

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:  Three strategies that will assist in alleviating the critical shortage of Registered Nurses (RNs) include:  an individualized education plan for updating their knowledge and skills throughout criterion reference testing, e-learning modules and clinical rotations.  Strategy two enables Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who cannot attend a traditional RN program to get their degree within one year through e-learning courses available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week (24/7).  The third strategy focuses on increasing interest of high school students in the health science careers with an emphasis on nursing.

 

KEY PARTICIPANTS:  Broward Workforce Development Board/Workforce One, Broward Community College, Hospital Corporation of America, Memorial Healthcare System, North Broward Hospital District, Holy Cross Hospital, National Council on the Aging, Center for Independent Living of Broward, other Broward County Hospitals and CollegisEdurprise (curriculum developers).
