POPULATION SERVED:  The primary target population for the H-1B Advanced Manufacturing Training Program is the incumbent worker.  New apprentices will be eligible to participate after they successfully complete six months of their apprentice contract.  The average age of the incumbent worker is 36.5 years.  The average age of  the apprentices is 25.2 years.  Two percent of the workforce are women, 1 percent of the workforce are African American, 1 percent are Hispanic and 2 percent are Asian.

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:  This project will provide technical skills training for professionals, including both employed and unemployed workers in Advanced Manufacturing.  The objectives of the proposed H-1B Program in Advanced Metalworking are:  to increase the number of Journeypersons through apprenticeships in Advanced Manufacturing; to increase the number of Journeyperson trainers in Advanced Manufacturing; to increase the skill level of Journeyperson trainers in Advanced Manufacturing by training in new and emerging technologies; to increase the skill level of new hires and incumbent workers in Advanced Manufacturing; and to increase the skill level of apprentices in the new and emerging technologies.

 

KEY PARTICIPANTS:  193 employer members of the Wisconsin Precision Metalworking Council, three colleges of the Wisconsin Technical College System (Milwaukee Area Technical College, Moraine Park Technical College and Waukesha County Technical College) and the Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington (WOW) Workforce Development Board, Inc.
