POPULATION SERVED:
Unemployed adults, previously certified nursing assistants (CNAs)
and licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) who wish to advance to a registered nurse
(RN) degree. Special efforts will be
made to target women, minorities, persons with disabilities and other under-represented
groups.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This project intends to develop an interest in nursing, as well as a clear career ladder for obtaining skills where students may enter a variety of skill levels to either improve current credentials and earning power or to enter nursing as a brand new field. The local partnership’s goal is to re-kindle interest in nursing education as a profession in order to ensure an adequate nursing workforce ten years from now.
KEY PARTICIPANTS: South Plains Regional Workforce Development
Board, TexasTech University Health Science Center and the four nursing schools in the
area: South Plains College, Lubbock, Lubbock Christian University, Covenant Hospital
and Texas Tech.
