What's Hot H-1B Bidders' Conference September 25, 2001 Playback

The U.S. Department of Labor sponsored an H-1B Technical Skills Training Grant Conference on September 25, 2001, in Baltimore, Maryland at the Baltimore-Washington Sheraton Hotel near the Baltimore-Washington Airport.

This important conference informed interested parties about the H-1B initiative and grant process and was a unique opportunity to interact with program professionals for those interested in applying for an H-1B grant.

H-1B grants are designed to train American workers to a high skill level, so that businesses can lessen their dependence on highly skilled foreign workers. Grants are awarded to bidders who are led by a local Workforce Investment Board and who demonstrate an effective partnership among the business community, government, community-based and faith-based organizations.

The conference playback is available below. Viewers will learn about the H-1B grant program and gain insight into the bidding process. The following topics are covered: maintaining a sustainable partnership, gaining business involvement, identifying the skills gap, sharing innovative and effective tools and understanding the target population.

Another feature of the conference was the sharing of experiences by current H-1B grantees. This will include tips for assuring success if an applicant is awarded a grant.
