Byron Zuidema was appointed as Chicago's ETA Regional Administrator in May of 1998. As a member of ETA's Senior Executive Service, Zuidema provides leadership to national, state and local leaders to develop workforce solutions which meet the needs of employers, workers, and communities. His work includes working with communities to identify and develop the potential of every citizen to become a skilled worker and engage in the growth of their regional economy. He recently served as ETA's Administrative Officer as Acting Administrator of the Office of Financial and Administrative Management.
Zuidema's career in workforce and community development includes extensive experience as a leader at the local, state, and federal levels. He also has experience in the private sector where he worked with software and technology companies. While at the local and state level, he was elected by his peers to lead a variety of legislative and policy groups.
Zuidema embraces life long learning and actively supports professional standards. He is a Certified Workforce Development Professional (CWDP) and 'Life Time Member' of National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP). He is a frequent speaker at a variety of workforce and economic development events.
Prior to this appointment Byron served as:
- President - Minnesota Software Association,
- Assistant Commissioner - MN Department of Economic Security
- Executive Director - Heartland Community Action, Willmar, Minnesota.
Other past experiences include: Chair of the National Governor's Association Workforce Liaisons, Co-Chair & Original Founder of the Enterprise Council (honored with Vice President Gore's National Performance Review Hammer Award), and Minnesota Council on Quality Member.
