What's New in Workforce Investment Archive: Headlines (2001)
On July 9, 2001, the Office of Vocational and Adult Education within
the Department of Education announced the availability of $5 million in FY 2001 funds for competitive grants to local Tech-Prep consortia under the Tech-Prep Demonstration Program.
Authorized by section 207 of the 1998 Carl D. Perkins Act, the funds were appropriated to enable eligible consortia to carry out tech-prep education projects that involve the co-location of a secondary school on the site of a community college, a business as a member of the consortium, and the voluntary participation of secondary school students. All TPDP projects must fully implement the core requirements of Tech-Prep Education under Title II of the Perkins Act.
OVAE has estimated that 10 grants will be awarded, ranging from $400,000 to $600,000 for a 36-month project period, with an average size of $500,000. The deadline for applications is September 17, 2001.
