Knoxville, TN 37950-1650

24 months

POPULATION SERVED: The proposed project will serve underserved adults and youths with disabilities who are seeking employment.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The Work Incentive and Inclusion Project of East Tennessee brings together two local workforce investment areas (LWIAs) and several local collaborators. Their overall aim is to improve accessibility and inclusion for persons with disabilities who seek jobs but are often underserved in their communities.

Project goals include increasing the percentages of adult, dislocated, and young workers with disabilities who are served by LWIA 2 and LWIA 3 programs. To meet these targets, two Disability Program Navigators (one for each area) will supplement the efforts of an overall Project Coordinator.

Partners in this effort include area Workforce Investment Boards, the Tennessee Customized Employment Partnership, the Knoxville Area Communication Center for the Deaf; Walters State Community College (Center for Workforce Development), the local Community Action Committee, and two career centers.

GEOGRAPHIC AREA TO BE SERVED: 11 East Tennessee counties: Claiborne, Cocke, Granger, Green, Hamble, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Sevier, Union, and Knox.
