Green Jobs Community of Practice (CoP)

Launched in January 2010, the Green Jobs Community of Practice (CoP) on Worforce3 One serves as a platform for workforce professionals and green job thought leaders to discuss and share promising practices to create partnerships for Green Job Workforce Solutions and leverage the 2009 Recovery Act investments. The Green Jobs CoP provides an interactive platform for providing technical assistance through webinars, discussion boards, blogs and other online resources to workforce professionals, particularly those at the State and Workforce Investment Board levels as well as green jobs grantees. It is a community for all workforce professionals who focus on green jobs and the workforce’s role in building a green economy.

Below are just a few examples of some of the information available on the Green Jobs CoP:

Green Jobs Reading 101 Wiki: This reading list is intended to provide the workforce investment system introductory materials about green jobs. The materials listed include some of the books, reports, key organizations and Web sites that focus on the green economy, green occupations, and resources for thinking about green jobs employment and training approaches. There is a brief description of each document along with a link to its location; most of the documents highlighted are cited frequently in other green jobs publications.

Blog on Community Colleges and Green Jobs: This blog discusses the role of community colleges and their role to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and promote environmental stewardship, using campuses as living laboratories, integrating sustainability principles into curricula, and educating and training workers for new, reoriented, or emerging jobs in the green economy.

A blog highlighting the Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program and links to a podcast and previous webinar.

A blog highlighting a recent Webinar: "Greening the World of Work: Implications for O*NET SOC and New and Emerging Occupations"

Some information coming up on the Green Jobs CoP includes:

  • A series of blogs highlighting different green jobs reports and surveys completed by various states that feature labor market information pertaining to green jobs in those states.
  • A series of blogs discussing competency models and featuring the “greening” of some of the models.
  • Blogs highlighting different federal partnerships like the partnership between the Department of Labor and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Green CoP team encourages you share your content here. The strength and usefulness of the Green Jobs Community of Practice comes from the contributions of its many members – so we hope you’ll stop by the new Green Jobs CoP today to connect, engage, and innovate!
