Grant Will Raise Awareness Among Youth About Careers in High Growth Industries

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Assistant Secretary of Labor Emily Stover DeRocco today announced a $480,000 grant to the National Congress of Parents and Teachers Association (National PTA) to create awareness among parents, teachers, guidance counselors and young people about career opportunities in high growth, high demand industries. "Parents, teachers and guidance counselors are on the front line communicating with their sons, daughters, and students, and the information to be made available through today's grant will provide valuable guidance on career opportunities," said DeRocco. "This grant will help create awareness of the many career possibilities within industries targeted by the President's High Growth Job Training Initiative."

Through the grant, the National PTA will launch the Jobs for the 21st Century Career Information Campaign to disseminate information to parents, teachers and guidance counselors on the career opportunities high growth, high demand industries provide. A PTA Career Information Toolkit also will be developed and distributed along with communication and promotional materials to over 24,000 schools nationwide.
